In order to establish what utilities you are responsible for, please review your lease and check the property page on our website.<\/p>\n<p>On the website, you will find a Utilities tab under Property Details that lists the contact information for each utility. If you have any questions regarding utilities, please reach out to your Portfolio Manager.<\/p>\n<p>If you are a JMU student, we recommend contacting JMU\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jmu.edu\/udap\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Utility Deposit Assistance Program<\/a> PRIOR to contacting utility companies.<\/p>\n<p>Most utility providers will only put an account in one person\u2019s name. Please work this out with your roommates.<\/p>\n    \t\t\t<\/div>\r\n    \t\t<\/div>\r\n    \t<\/div>\r\n    \t    \t<div class=\"item accordion-item\" id=\"what-is-jmus-utility-deposit-assistance-program\">\r\n    \t\t<div class=\"item-header\" id=\"heading-2\">\r\n    \t\t\t<h5 class=\"collapsed\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-target=\"#collapse-2\">\r\n    \t\t\t\tWhat is JMU&#8217;s Utility Deposit Assistance Program?    \t\t\t<\/h5>\r\n    \t\t<\/div>\r\n\r\n    \t\t<div id=\"collapse-2\" class=\"collapse \" aria-labelledby=\"heading-2\" data-parent=\"#accordion-block_9652a1dedb062b1eca516cb02cd11fc6\">\r\n    \t\t\t<div class=\"item-body\">\r\n    \t\t\t\t<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jmu.edu\/udap\/\">UDAP<\/a> is a JMU sponsored program in partnership with utility companies to allow students utility connection WITHOUT paying the varying deposit amounts of $350 for water\/sewer, $200 for gas, or up to $350 for electric. This can only be purchased between April and July of your move in year. Only one tenant per unit needs to purchase the contract.<\/p>\n<p>With the purchase of a UDAP contract, deposit fees for connecting water, gas, and electricity are reduced\/eliminated. The amount limits are as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>Gas: Up to $500<\/li>\n<li>Electric: Up to $350 with Harrisonburg Electric Commission; Up to $600 with Shenandoah Valley Electric Cooperative<\/li>\n<li>Water: Up to $350<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>To be eligible to purchase a UDAP contract:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>You must be enrolled as a full-time, degree-seeking, currently active JMU student.<\/li>\n<li>You must have no financial holds on your JMU account.<\/li>\n<li>You must be a student living off campus.<\/li>\n<li>You must have a JMU Email.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n    \t\t\t<\/div>\r\n    \t\t<\/div>\r\n    \t<\/div>\r\n    \t    \t<div class=\"item accordion-item\" id=\"how-long-is-the-jmu-udap-contract-when-do-i-renew\">\r\n    \t\t<div class=\"item-header\" id=\"heading-3\">\r\n    \t\t\t<h5 class=\"collapsed\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-target=\"#collapse-3\">\r\n    \t\t\t\tHow long is the JMU UDAP Contract? When do I renew?    \t\t\t<\/h5>\r\n    \t\t<\/div>\r\n\r\n    \t\t<div id=\"collapse-3\" class=\"collapse \" aria-labelledby=\"heading-3\" data-parent=\"#accordion-block_9652a1dedb062b1eca516cb02cd11fc6\">\r\n    \t\t\t<div class=\"item-body\">\r\n    \t\t\t\t<p>UDAP (Utility Deposit Assistance Program) contracts expire each year on <strong>July 31, 20XX<\/strong>.\u00a0 Upon expiration, UTILITIES WILL BE DISCONNECTED. You must renew your contract each year prior to this date in order to avoid a lapse in your utilities. UDAP expiring on July 31 does not result in your account being closed and you should renew rather than opening another account. Can I turn off my utilities if I move out early?     \t\t\t<\/h5>\r\n    \t\t<\/div>\r\n\r\n    \t\t<div id=\"collapse-4\" class=\"collapse \" aria-labelledby=\"heading-4\" data-parent=\"#accordion-block_9652a1dedb062b1eca516cb02cd11fc6\">\r\n    \t\t\t<div class=\"item-body\">\r\n    \t\t\t\t<p>Per your lease, you are required to have your utilities on from the lease start date through the lease end date.<\/p>\n<p>If you fail to turn on your utilities by your move-in date and\/or during your lease term, you shutoff utilities, the services can\/will be transferred to Matchbox\u2019s name. Our office will receive a bill; upon processing \u2013 you and your roommates will each receive a Utility Bill Payment Fee for each bill we receive (per your Lease), in addition to the cost of utility usage.\u00a0 To avoid the possibility of a fine, please ensure you have water and electric ON and in your name(s) for the duration of your lease term! This includes Winter Break, Summer Break and extended vacations.<\/p>\n<p>Even if you move out early, you may not turn off your utilities prior to this lease end date. Doing so could cause appliance failures. If this is the case, you could be responsible for the replacement of those appliances. You may also be subjected to charges associated with the reconnection of the utilities and the Utility Bill Payment Fee(s).<\/p>\n<p>If you are passing your unit down, communicate with the incoming tenants to make sure there is no disruption of service to the unit.<\/p>\n    \t\t\t<\/div>\r\n    \t\t<\/div>\r\n    \t<\/div>\r\n    \t    \t<div class=\"item accordion-item\" id=\"can-i-turn-off-my-heat-during-winter-break-to-save-money\">\r\n    \t\t<div class=\"item-header\" id=\"heading-5\">\r\n    \t\t\t<h5 class=\"collapsed\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-target=\"#collapse-5\">\r\n    \t\t\t\tCan I turn off my heat during winter break to save money?    \t\t\t<\/h5>\r\n    \t\t<\/div>\r\n\r\n    \t\t<div id=\"collapse-5\" class=\"collapse \" aria-labelledby=\"heading-5\" data-parent=\"#accordion-block_9652a1dedb062b1eca516cb02cd11fc6\">\r\n    \t\t\t<div class=\"item-body\">\r\n    \t\t\t\t<p>You should never turn your heat off completely in the winter, especially when you are away. Turning your heat off can cause your pipes to freeze and, in the end, will not save you money. You are responsible for maintaining an appropriate temperature in your apartment and frozen pipes could cost you thousands of dollars in damage.<\/p>\n<p>You can save money by turning your heat down to no lower than 55 degrees, closing your blinds, and opening your cabinet doors around your bathroom and kitchen plumbing.<\/p>\n    \t\t\t<\/div>\r\n    \t\t<\/div>\r\n    \t<\/div>\r\n    \t    \t<div class=\"item accordion-item\" id=\"my-water-bill-was-high-what-do-i-do\">\r\n    \t\t<div class=\"item-header\" id=\"heading-6\">\r\n    \t\t\t<h5 class=\"collapsed\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-target=\"#collapse-6\">\r\n    \t\t\t\tMy water bill was high. A toilet can consume 25,000 gallons or more a month.
